25TH APRIL 1963

The forth venue of the 'Mersey Beat Showcase' tour, in which Brian Epstein promoted his own acts from Liverpool on a six venue tour to the South of England. The acts included the Beatles, Gerry & the  Pacemakers, the Big Three and Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas, with Bob Woolmer as compare.

This particular venue was booked in January, prior to any of the Merseyside groups hitting the big time and to ensure that the concert was a success, John Smith, the promoter, booked John Leyton to top the bill. However, John Leyton became ill on the day of this concert and was unable to perform. This was of little concern to the attendees of the concert, as success of these Merseybeaters had already spread to the South with hits that included Please Please Me by the Beatles, How Do You Do It? by Gerry & the Pacemakers and Some Other Guy by The Big Three
