This performance at the Cambridge Hall, Lord
Street, Southport, Lancashire was another promotion by NEMS Enterprises, whereby
Brian Epstein had paired the Beatles with a successful artist. This was billed as the Joe
Brown Show with his Bruvvers - Southport's Big Event. At the time of the show Joe Brown had a top ten hit with 'A Picture of You', which, incidentally, the Beatles were also performing at this time, with George on lead vocals. It was also one of Brian Epstein's favourite records. Other groups performing at the show were The Dakotas with Pete Maclaine, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy Kramer with the Coasters and the Four Jays. Ticket admission was six shillings (30p) in advance or seven shillings (35p) on the night and the show started at 7.30pm and finished at 11.30pm and included a Licensed Bar. |
