Brass Apple

Below I have reproduced the original letter (exactly as written) received from an ex-employee at Apple stating categorically that the Brass Apple was one of only a few prototypes made as a thank you gift, but rejected by staff in favour of glass paper weights that were presented. It is not known what happened to the brass apples, although we now know of two that still exist. Another was sold by Sotheby's of London a few years ago.

Perhaps I can shed a little light on this for you. I was the receptionist at Apple for most of the time and was given as were the other staff a clear glass apple paperweight by way of a thank you. They had different interiors, some with gold bubbles in them (as is mine) others with oily primary colours of the rainbow. I remember someone (won't tell you who) going round there office asking everyone's opinion about the brass apple which was a sort of idea (there were many flying about all the time). Overall, I think the general consesus of opinion was that it didn't really look like an apple as it was squashed, and if I remember, one was meant to be able to put things inside it but that didn't work very well either. I think it was an aborted idea but don't hold me to it. I think they went with the glass one's.
Best wishes, Deborah Scarfe
